For the Golfer with a Sweet Tooth

murphys-4
After a morning round on the historic links of Great Britain & Ireland, followed by a sumptuous meal spent reminiscing the day’s highlights, the traveling golfer is likely to have a bit of a sweet tooth. In the file under: “It’s a tough job but somebody has to do it,” our Concierge and the rest of The Major’s Minions personally vet numerous restaurants across the pond each year in search of the best of the Good Life. Along the way we’ve discovered a few delectable bites that are sure to provide a dash of whipped cream on top of an already memorable day.

Affogato at Fisher’s in the City

A traditionally Italian dessert may not be the first entry you’d expect to find on this list, but this is one delight that shouldn’t be missed. Fisher’s in the City has long been a favorite of our Members of the Forces visiting Edinburgh, and the array of seafood on the menu is truly exceptional. But it’s the pairing of ice cream and espresso that will prove as memorable as the next day’s round at North Berwick.

Sticky Toffee Pudding at Bushmills Inn

A love of Sitcky Toffee Pudding is a prerequisite imposed on all candidates seeking to join The Major’s Minions. Given that it is his favorite sweet indulgence, our staff has called upon countless eateries across the pond in search of the finest rendition. For example, Tailend in St. Andrews, Crannag Bistro in Bonar Bridge, and Deacon Brodie’s Tavern in Edinburgh are a few recent additions to our STP of Fame list. Ask any member of the H&B staff to name their favorite, however, and you’re sure to get the same answer: The Bushmills Inn.

Cheese Plate at The Marcliffe

Though not a sweet in the technical sense, the Cheese Board at The Marcliffe provides a savory end to a meal in the award-winning Conservatory restaurant. There are nearly a dozen selections to choose from, all of which we’ve found to pair wonderfully with an accompanying glass of port. The dish also has a unique tie-in to the hotel’s Drawing Room, where a collection of over 140 cheese dishes from all over the globe are on display. A fine cap to any day that began at Cruden Bay or Royal Aberdeen.

Dublin Cookie Co.

It’s understandable to assume that in the heart of Dublin the best desserts would involve Guinness in one form or another. And by our own admission, the Guinness Mousse at the famed Storehouse is always a satisfying treat. But our favorite sweet in Dublin is found just a short stroll away, in an unassuming storefront along Thomas Street. The sign out front of Dublin Cookie Co. is sure to bring a smile that is sure to return with the first bite of their prized commodity.

Murphy’s Ice Cream in Killarney

Like the Sticky Toffee Pudding at Bushmills Inn, Murphy’s Ice Cream is an institution of sorts for those that do The Major’s bidding. Every member of the H&B team has a favorite flavor, and many of our Members of the Forces have joined in the fun. To quote one passionate member, “If all else fails, find Murphy’s Ice Cream.” Now with three locations in Dingle, Killarney, and Dublin, doing so is easier than ever.
