Where are the Best Golf Courses in England Located?

While their neighbors to the north may be the true Home of Golf, England is home to nearly four times as many golf courses as Scotland. According to the R&A, there are over 2200 golf courses in England, compared to roughly 600 in Scotland. Of course, Scotland still boasts more courses per capita than any other country in the world.

The best golf courses in England are mostly found in one of three regions: London, the Channel Coast, and England’s Golf Coast. There are plenty of great courses found elsewhere around the country, but most Americans visiting on an England golf tour will hit those three areas.

England Golf Courses Map

As you’ll notice on the map below, the great courses of England are spread pretty far across the country. Visiting all three regions in a single trip is really only possible if you plan on spending at least two full weeks in England. As a result, most will carve the country into two separate trips: One for England’s Golf Coast, another for the combination of London and the Channel Coast. Of course, deciding which to do first is a different conundrum altogether, but this helpful guide should help you choose where to play on an England golf trip.

If you’re exploring the map on your notebook or desktop, each of the names will link to a detailed description of that specific course. And for even further study, pay a visit to our Yardage Book where you’ll find in-depth guides to answer many of our most frequently asked questions.
